As small as feasible, even at the expense of specifications, appears to be Apple’s ambition for the iPhone 17 Slim (also known as the iPhone Air), which is anticipated to be released in 2025. According to a leaker, Samsung is reportedly taking a different approach. The Galaxy S25 Slim, which might be released as a Fan Edition model, is meant to serve as a more viable option to the little Vivo X200 Pro Mini.

The Vivo X200 Pro Mini may already be familiar to those seeking a flagship camera that is as small and thin as possible, but it is unlikely to be released globally. Although the manufacturer has concentrated on creating the thinnest feasible shell for the Oppo Find X8 Pro, the champions of casing thickness are not expected to be released until 2025.

For months, there have been rumors and analyst indications regarding Apple’s next compact model, which may be called the iPhone 17 Air and is expected to replace the iPhone 16 Plus next year. According to a recent study by the South Korean trade journal ETNews, losing weight is probably the main goal here. The source claims that neither the iPhone 17 nor the iPhone 17 Slim will include a dedicated zoom camera and that the telephoto cameras will only be available on the two iPhone 17 Pro models in 2025.

In 2025, Samsung will also put a lot of effort into making its flagship smartphones’ casings slimmer; based on prior hints, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a somewhat thinner design. According to confirmed leaker Ice Universe (see below), the South Koreans are probably planning a “Galaxy S25 Slim” for next year instead of a direct replacement for the Galaxy S24 FE (available here at Amazon). It will, however, still have a flagship camera.

A recent camera comparison with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Slim would follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy Z Fold SE, which also combines a better camera with a thinner foldable housing. According to Ice Universe, a “stronger” camera than the standard Galaxy S25 is to be expected. The slimmer Samsung camera flagship’s exact specifications are yet unknown, though.
